Jamaica's Summary

Jamaica is a beautiful island located in the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the many islands that make up the West Indies and is an active state and member of Caricom. Jamaica is located south of Cuba and north of Panama.  Jamaica is among the tropical countries in the world with bright sun shine and beautiful white sand beaches. Jamaica is some times described as the land of wood and water.
According to many historical sources Jamaica was made know to the wider world by the Spanish in 1494 and was later govern by the English in 1655. Jamaica is not very large but is among the Greater Antilles (larger islands in the Caribbean) of the West Indies. Jamaica is about 4,400 square miles in size, 145 miles in length and 50 miles in width.
Jamaica has a lot of mountainous areas with the Blue Mountains being the highest point. A number of unique animals such as birds, insects, and fish among other animals are located on the land. The beaches of this beautiful island are classified as some of the best in the world and rivers are used as a unique attraction for tourist.
Jamaica gain independence in August 1962 and have grown into a developing country. The month of August is an important time for Jamaica because number of cultural activities that take place during this time.
Jamaica is rated as one of the best tourist location because of the great beach resorts, music, culture, landscape and food among others. The people in Jamaica are some of the warmest in Caribbean and they love to share their cultural history with visitors.
Jamaica has produced a number of great personalities such as Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Usian Bolt, Merlene Ottey, Veronica Campbell, Asafa Powell, the Sun Shine Girls and the Reggae Boys, among others.
